Chemistry Honors

What Current Students Say...

The labs are a unique experience, requiring students to figure out an appropriate design

Many students take Chemistry Honors their sophomore year because it is a traditional “next science class” to prepare for college or future AP science, and they have a passion for the topic/Science

Some common challenges include: vocabulary/terms and balancing time with other commitments (academic or extracurricular), math application, and the faster pace

Advice to Future Students?

  • Manage your time wisely, pay attention and take notes in class, and study.

  • You need to do most of the extra practice and review frequently

What Else You Should Know...

The pace is faster and depth is greater than Chemistry

More independent work time is provided

Half of students report spending either less than 1 hour, while the other half report up to 2 hours of work outside of class per two days of block.

Students should be in Geometry Honors as they must be confident with applying Algebra skills regularly

Summative Assessments for each unit include performance assessments (like a lab or project) and 1-hour traditional exams
