This month, construction broke ground on a new remote parking lot for Grayslake Central High School. This project addresses a decade-long issue of inadequate parking space, particularly during large events, at Central.
For decades, parking, or lack thereof, has continued to be a challenge for students, families, and those attending Central events. To solve the issue, District 127 acquired an old park district maintenance lot (477 N. Lake St.) and an adjoining property (467 N. Lake St.) in order to create a new remote parking lot for Central High School.
The new parking lot will offer 90 parking spaces, including 3 spaces equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. The plan includes planting numerous trees, shrubs, and perennials to replace the vegetation removed during the demolition phase.
The project is scheduled to be completed in time to alleviate parking issues for the upcoming school year.
